This year’s winner of the Cross Trophy for the best submission to the Bath Young Inventor of the Year Competition was won by Anna H from Monkton Combe school. Beating other submissions, such as a suitcase which follows its owner, Anna’s invention featured a series of giant artificial and solar powered polar bears – solar bears you might say-which would convert sea water into icy breath which they breathe out over the Artic cooling the air and combatting global warming. Winner Anna said ‘ I think the Artic gets less attention than it should’. The giant mechanical polar bears would tower above the real thing, hopefully protecting them. Anna H not only received a trophy but a cash prize and a certificate awarded by Stuart Burroughs the Museum Director. Each year the Cross Prize is awarded to the best invention judged by experts from University of Bath, 44 AD Gallery and the Museum of Bath at Work. Full competition details.
